Happy birthday sweet girl! The day you have been waiting for, your birthday, has finally arrived. I hope it was all that you dreamed it would be. Because you deserve each and every one of your dreams to come true. You're growing up on me. It's been eight great years. Eight wonderful, exciting, marvelous years.
Sophie you brighten up our home! You are so full of life. You love to cuddle, and go on "family dates." You like to listen to music and have dance parties. You like to play with friends and laugh. Your dad always says you have the best laugh around and I think he might be right! You like to stay up late, and sleep in in the mornings. You run and play, and you like to cuddle up and get comfortable. You are one fun little girl to have around.
Sophie you are so sweet and caring. You are such a peacemaker in our home. You look for ways to make everyone feel better. You are the best big sister to Collin and Ruby and Lyla. You constantly surprise me with the love and care you give to them. They look up to you. And they should, because you are a great example for them. I am so proud of you.
At eight years old you still love all things soft and cuddly. Your collection of stuffed animals is quickly taking over our house. Yet you never seem to have enough! There is always one you just have to have! It isn't often that we leave the house without one of your stuffed animal friends. You still have a love for your blankie and like to sleep with it every night. And although you love it, you can never remember where you left it last.
This year is a big year for you. You have made the decision to be baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. You are so excited and have been looking forward to this day for so long. You have such a strong testimony and teach me so much about faith and following our Savior's example. I am proud of you for this decision. You look so beautiful in your white dress and I can't wait to share this special day with you.
I love you Sophie. I love the beautiful, sweet, fun, loving girl that you are. It was one of the best days ever that you were born. Thanks for making me your mom. Life with you is pretty great. I am so blessed. Happy birthday.
Love you forever and always,
Sophie turned eight years old!
I can't believe my first baby is eight!
What a beautiful, smart, funny girls she is!
For her birthday this year Sophie had quite the list. Unfortunately for her, she didn't get everything that was on it. Fortunately though, Santa knows exactly what she wants come Christmas time!!!
She did however get many great and wonderful things that she LOVES! Lots of electronic pets, some fun crafts, and a new bike from mom and dad!
For her birthday, she requested lunch at Sizzler so we did that and then we went on a fun family bike ride!
Her party this year was an almost sleepover party!
She had a bunch of her cute girl friends over and they did all those things that girls like to do!
Stay up late, eat pizza, glitter nails, and a movie with popcorn!!!
The girls also tie dyed shirts...
and decorated door hangers for their bedroom door.
Of course there were presents and cake and ice cream too!
Sophie was so cute opening presents. After she unwrapped each one she told that friend "thank you" and gave her a big hug!!
Blowing out 8 candles was a lot of work,
but nothing that my big girl couldn't handle!!
Happy Birthday Sophie!
I hope all your birthday wishes come true!!!

A couple weeks ago, we took a trip up to Bear Lake.
We met up with Logan's parents for some yummy lunch and then headed to the beach to spend the day with our neighbors and friends. Everyone had a good time. The kids were so content all day. There was no whining or complaining at all. Sophie dug in the sand for hours straight trying "to get to water" and everyone enjoyed splashing in the water. Such a fun day. And of course we couldn't leave without having a yummy raspberry shake first!

I have to admit that toward the end of this project i was dreading it!
It seemed so easy at the beginning.
When she wasn't mobile!
Once she started moving, it got hard!!
Trying to get an in focus shot of her was a nightmare.
But I am so glad that I stuck with it!
I love how it turned out.
One year of Lyla!
Such a cute girl.
To My Lyla:
Today you turn one! I can't believe it. I have mixed emotions about today. Sad that you are no longer my little baby, and happy about you growing and learning new things! What an amazing day it was the day you were born. One that I will never forget. Seeing you and holding you for the first time was truly one of the best moments of my life. And each day since then has been such a blessing. You have brought us so much joy and happiness. You bring so much sweetness into our lives. We are better because of you. Because of who you are. Who you have made me. Who you have made your daddy. And who you have made Sophie, Collin, and Ruby. We love you!
Lyla you have mastered the stairs. At least going up the stairs. And you love it! You love being able to follow the kids upstairs. They run up to play and you are crawling along behind them just as fast as your little body can carry you. You are in heaven just being with them! Sometimes you get up there and realize they aren't there, and then you cry.
Your favorite thing in the world right now is sitting on the couch with mom or dad. Although I wouldn't really call it sitting. You crawl, and climb, and scoot, and slip, and slide all over it. And you like to do it with mom or dad because we keep you from falling off! You definitely aren't a baby that sits still. Ever. You also like to do this on mom and dads bed! It is an especially fun way to wake daddy up in the morning!!
You started taking baths like a big girl this week. And you are so delighted with it. You splash, and climb and splash some more. Until it is time to wash your hair. We haven't quite figured out the best way to do that yet. So while you are so excited to get in the bath, you usually come out crying.
At a year you still don't talk, yet you communicate your every desire with a few "ugh, ugh, ugh" followed by hand waving (pushing objects away) or grabbing at things. You do however have your own language and speak fluently in it! If one of the kids does something you don't approve of, you are sure to let them know! And you tell the best stories. I try to listen closely to everything you say and follow up with a "really!" This usually encourages you to tell me more. I love it!
My favorite thing about you at a year is cuddling first thing in the morning. You aren't much of a cuddler, but sometimes if I am extra lucky after I feed you your morning bottle, you will cuddle with me. I love rubbing your soft baby skin, kissing your squishy cheeks, and smelling your curly-q locks! There is nothing better.
Happy first birthday Lyla Kate! You are someone special! We love you. Forever and always.

I feel like August will forever and always be a crazy busy month! My head spins thinking about and planning all our upcoming events. I have been making lists, and shopping like crazy. Hopefully everything will all come together.
This little troublemaker turns one on Saturday! She is growing up so fast. She is so close to taking steps all on her own. Part of me is so excited for her, and another part of me wants to push her down.
A week after Lyla's birthday Sophie turns eight. How is it that my first baby is eight? Planning her birthday has been hard for me. She has a million ideas and plans and she can't decide on any of them. I finally just told her I would plan it. But now I worry about whether she will like it or not! I'm sure she will.
The following week is her baptism. She is so excited! And we are excited for her. I took her out for a little photo shoot and got some great shots of her in her new baptism dress. She is such a beautiful girl. She met with the Bishop last week and finalized her program. It is going to be a wonderful day!
Luckily, school starts later this year so I don't have to add that to my list of things to stress about. Although I am more than ready for them to go back. Ready for routine and structure again. All the kids are dying to go back to school shopping for backpacks and pencils and things like that. We'll see if we can squeeze it in soon.

To My Lyla,
Last year at this time I couldn't wait for the day you would be born. I wanted time to fast forward to the very moment when I would get to hold you in my arms for the very first time. Now I wish that I could pause time, or at least slow it down. You are growing so quickly. You aren't that little snuggly baby anymore, but the little person you are becoming is something pretty special too.
You are one loved little lady. Your brother and sisters absolutely adore you. You should see the crazy things they will do to get your attention. They are constantly in your face smothering you with love and affection. I spend a good part of my day telling them to give you your space! I hope that you guys always have a close relationship with one another.
Lyla you are a Daddy's girl. You light up whenever he is around. You love being in his arms, crawling all over him, playing with his watch, and grabbing at his glasses. I don't think he will ever let you have them, but it never stops you from trying!!
Oh Lyla, you bring us joy. You bring us smiles and laughter. We love you and are so blessed to have your sweet spirit in our family.

During the month of
we celebrated Collin's 6th birthday
we took a family vacation to the Black Hills of South Dakota
where we visited Mt. Rushmore, Reptile Gardens, Bear Country USA, and Wind Cave National Park
we enjoyed cooling off in the evenings with some popsicles
I took a quick trip with Logan to Monterey
we celebrated Pioneer Day with a neighborhood parade and bbq
Our last day of vacation was spent at Wind Cave National Park.
I think this was Collin's most favorite activity we did. We took a tour inside the cave and went down 300 stairs. At first the kids were a little scared and weren't quite sure about it. Poor Logan had to carry Ruby through the entire thing. She fell down earlier in the morning scraping both of her knees and refused to walk the entire day!
While at Wind Cave, Collin worked hard at completing all the requirements to be a junior ranger and earned himself another badge.
After Wind Cave, we headed to Reptile Gardens.
Sophie had been dying to go here since the minute she saw it on our drive to the hotel the first day. It was a neat place full of great shows.
Sophie got chosen out of the audience to help with the bird show. She was so fun to watch up on stage.
After all that plus some swimming back at the hotel, we were worn out and ready to sleep in our own beds. We ended up coming home a day earlier than originally planned, but we felt like we got to see and do it all. Two thumbs up for great vacations!!!
