You Capture - Color

Color. It makes me happy. Especially this time of year when everything is so grey. Everything. Although we did have some blue in our skies today ... so wonderful! Winter is long. I am so ready for Spring. But until then, I will have to imagine ... and soak up all the color I can find, wherever I can find it!

My lemon tree had 2 bright yellow lemons on it this week. I say had because shortly after I took this picture the kids picked them to make lemonade. Sour lemonade. Both made me smile. The lemons and the kids making the lemonade.

On my counter this week I have these bright orange flowers. From my sweet hubby. He is always so thoughtful and regularly brings gifts home for everyone. Thanks babe.

And thats the color in my life this week unless you count the colorful crayon marks that are all over my walls and floors from my baby ... but I like to pretend they aren't there. Carrying around a crayon just makes her so stinkin' happy. {Sigh!}

i heart faces - texture

The theme this week at i heart faces is texture. This can be texture found in nature or added with photo editing software. I have tons of pics with natural texture in them, but I wanted to try adding it in photoshop. So I gave it a try! I have never done it with a pic with a face in it before. Kinda fun!

My little baby is growing much too fast.
It seems that everyday she develops a new skill.
I love it ... watching her grow.
I hate it ... seeing my baby leave me. Oh I know she isn't really leaving me, but she is. She is no longer that tiny newborn I once held in my arms. And soon she won't be the sweet and spunky toddler that she is becoming ...

Although most of her counterparts are walking, Ruby hasn't quite mastered that skill, but she loves to stand and is getting more brave every day by letting go and even trying to take a step or two. She is so close, but she just doesn't have the balance. For Christmas Santa brought her a stroller walker and she loves it. She loves to love the baby by patting it on it's back saying "ooohhh!" and she loves to push it around. She smiles from ear to ear as she does this. It is fun to watch.

She doesn't talk yet ... unless you count "ugh, ugh, ugh" while pointing at anything and everything she sees. I take that back. She does say "bye" and "Ma" but other than that it is "ugh". But she is a genius and has begun to sign. I would casually sign to her when she was in her high chair and then one day she just caught on. It's cute and I like that she can express herself a little. One of my favorites (although not a true sign) is when she shakes her head "no." Last night she had the whole family in hysterics. I would asked her "should we go get in your pajamas?" and she would vigorously shake her head "no!" It was too funny and we did it over and over again.

Her latest accomplishment is stairs. Much to my dismay. Up until now she has had no interest in the stairs. None. Logan and I went out one night and when we got back Grandma had taught her how to climb the stairs ... going down took longer. But she has mastered both. And along with stairs she is climbing anything that she can lift her little legs upon.

And eating. This girl is a pig! Meant in the nicest way, I promise. But she can out eat not only Collin but sometimes Sophie as well. She only has 2 teeth but that doesn't stop her. She loves food.

We love her pieces. And why she is working hard at learning and growing, I am working hard to find a way to freeze time. She is more successful than I am. Sigh!

Today is Logan's 30th birthday ... he is getting old! I just wanted to take a second and wish him a HAPPY BIRTHDAY! We did a little early celebration with the kids last night complete with brownies and home made ice cream. Yum! Tonight we are going out with friends ... just like he used to celebrate back in the day. It should be fun!

I hope you have a wonderful birthday babe. You are truly a blessing in our lives and I am so grateful to have you. Love you.

Tea Party

Last week Sophie brought home the book Fancy Nancy Tea Parties. She loves Fancy Nancy and immediately began asking if she could have a tea party. Being the mother that I am, I told her "Of course ... for your birthday!" But Logan, being the father that he is, told her "what a good idea!" {Okay, I confess I don't really know what he told her but it didn't involve waiting 8 months for a tea party.} The next thing I know he is planning her tea party. He invited 5 little friends, borrowed a cute as can be tea set from his grandma, arranged party games, and food. What a great dad!

The girls made their own tea {strawberry milk} and feasted on raspberry swirls, oreo cookies, and sugar cookies.

Sophie of course dressed up as Ariel ...

She made little place tags with each guests name on them, and set the table all by herself.

After they had their tea, they played "Follow the Hostess" {follow the leader}, and "I am going to Paris and I'm packing ..." {a memory game}.

The party was a hit! Good thing Sophie has a more ambitious father than she does a mother! Thanks babe for throwing a great tea party. I know it is something Sophie will always remember.

After her first week back at school from Christmas vacation, Sophie was dying to do something fun ... and Logan had taken the day off ... so we all went bowling! It was a great time. And I don't want to brag, but I can't resist saying that I did awesome ... and Logan not so awesome. The kids were a crack up and full of energy - even more than usual!

i heart faces "Best Face Photo"

Happy Birthday i heart faces!

The theme this week is "Best Face Photo" and the photo had to be taken during December '09 or January '10. So I couldn't go digging through my archives -- I had to choose one that I took recently. I haven't been taking as many pics being that the weather is freezing outside, but I did take some cute ones of little miss Ruby Jane in December for her 1 year photo shoot! Every time I look at it I want to squeeze her!

It seems like it is a little after the fact for this post (I have been busy. Busy doing the mom and housewife thing ... and perfecting my Mario Cart game.), but it is a new year. A new decade even. And I feel like it would be weird to just move forward without documenting the year we just left behind. So I thought I would do a little "Best of 2009" and "Worst of 2009" for the Phipps family.

Best of 2009

I got my DSLR camera
Logan and his dad went to a fun fly in St. George
Collin started pre-school
Sophie started Kindergarten
summer art class
backyard swimming
Sophie played soccer
family vacation to Sea World and Lego Land
family vacation to Canada
Logan and I went to the Reno Air Races
Ruby was blessed
numerous trips to Lagoon
numerous trips to the zoo
Collin learned to pedal his bike
father/son and mother/daughter outings
I went to see Wicked with my mom
I lost 32 pounds
Logan and I took a day trip to San Francisco
Logan got a dirt bike
Collin got potty trained
Logan and I celebrated our 7th wedding anniversary
Ruby celebrated her 1st birthday

Worst of 2009

physical therapy for Ruby
sleep training
5 am wake ups ... everyday
Logan crashed and totaled his car
waiting in line for the H1N1 vaccine
Kindergarten shots
4 day trips for Logan
Logan and I got one year closer to 30!
kicking, screaming, tantrums ... everyday.
Collin stopped taking a nap
fevers, coughs, and earaches
in-grown toenails
running on the treadmill

It really was a great year. And it was so fun to look back at all that we have done and accomplished. I am excited for what is to come.

Welcome 2010!

I had so much fun putting these together!
