halloween happenings ...

We have been having fun celebrating the spooky Halloween season around here.
We have feasted on spider cookies. Aren't they so fun? The kids loved them . . . and I had fun making them!

We got dressed up in our costumes and headed out for our 4th annual Neighborhood Halloween Parade (even with the snow). So much fun! I love seeing all of the costumes.

the beautiful ballerina

Sophie's costume morphed a little for the parade. Instead of ballet shoes, she chose snow boots and instead of wearing a coat to stay warm, she wore Ruby's Baby Legs on her arms. It was quite the combination! She did eventually wear her jacket after freezing and seeing everyone else in jackets.

and the spooky dragon ... not to be confused with a dinosaur!

Sophie and her friend Hannah

We carved pumpkins ... which turned into Mom and Dad carving pumpkins. Well, really it was just Dad carving the pumpkins! But the kids were thrilled with the end result. Sophie wanted Ariel carved into her pumpkin and Collin wanted a skeleton. Logan did a great job!

We did get Sophie to help take a few seeds out of her pumpkin. Collin freaked when he got any pumpkin guts on him.

Giving me their best BOO faces

We sang this song
Pumpkin, Pumpkin
Round and Fat
Turn into a Jack 0 Lantern
Just Like That!

We even roasted pumpkin seeds for the first time. Pretty Yummy! But I am not really sure if it is worth separating the seeds from the guts! I must be lazy!

Tonight ... mummy pizzas, trick-or-treating, and eating way too much candy!
happy halloween

i ♥ faces- Halloween Dress Up

Halloween is soon here.
My kids are soOOoo excited!
They knew just what they wanted to be this year.
This little man (okay he isn't so little ... but I can pretend) is a DRAGON.

I was told by my kids that ...
Boys are supposed to be SCARY
and
Girls are supposed to be BEAUTIFUL!

Any guesses on what beautiful costume she chose this year?

What scary or beautiful costumes are you or your kids sporting this Halloween?

Lucky Girl

I am one lucky girl! It was my birthday on the 23rd. I turned 29 ... crazy! Anyway I suggested on Tuesday that Logan and I fly to San Francisco on Thursday for the day to celebrate my birthday. He thought it was a great idea and before I knew it he had babysitters arranged to watch our kids so that we could go. Lucky me!

It was a fast little trip but so much fun. I love being with Logan ... just the two of us.

We did a little shopping. The stores there are huge!
We rode the trolley car.

We spent some time on the pier where we enjoyed some yummy clam chowder ...

and spent some time with these guys! I can't get enough of them.

And of course we couldn't visit San Francisco for my birthday without getting some yummy ice cream from Ghirardelli Square.

After all that it was time to catch our flight back home. It was such a fun day! I am so grateful to my mother in law and sister in law for being so willing to watch our kids. Thanks guys!

Black Island Farm

Yesterday we went to a to a pumpkin patch with some of Logan's family. It was a blast! The kids just ran wild going from one activity to the next. Slides, a bounce house, a train, a corn box, a corn cannon . . . and lots more! What else could you want?

After we played around a bit, we headed over to the hay ride. The kids loved it. They had so much fun picking out their own pumpkin.

sophie and her pumpkin

Sophie was soOOOo proud of her pumpkin. She got off the hay ride and immediately chose the pumpkin closest to her. Logan told her that she had to be able to carry the pumpkin she chose herself. So she moved to the next pumpkin which was equally big and picked it right up. So she got to keep it! She liked it because it had a long stem.

After the hay ride, Logan and I had to leave. But the kids were lucky enough to stay with Grandma and play all night. They loved it. It really was such a fun place. We will for sure go back next year!

Leaf Vacation

This time of year is soOOoo pretty. The kids have been so good at pointing out all of the different colors of leaves that they see helping me to truly take it all in this year.

Over Conference weekend we went up to Snowbasin to get a better, more up close look at the beautiful fall leaves. We called it an adventure (trying to detract from any hiking or walking that might take place - the kids were not in favor of any of that). We packed a lunch and a baggy to put our colored leaves in that we found. Lunch was cold but the kids enjoyed themselves. I think they probably ate more SNOW than food and they were loving it. Then we set out looking for leaves. The kids had fun looking for all different colored ones to add to their bag, but they were a little hesitant to set foot off of the beaten path. But by the end we had 2 kids with full bags and a bunch of branches to make us a bouquet of fall leaves to sit on the table at home. We had a lot of fun on our adventure . . . or our leaf vacation as Collin calls it!

there isn't a group of pictures taken without the "stick out our tongue shot." they love it!

First Swing

It was a relatively nice day today. Rather windy, but not too chilly . . . just nice. So we went to the park. Sophie wanted to go to the park with the rocking animals. We weren't quite sure what park she was talking about. In the end, we decided to go to a park nearby that has some baby swings for Ruby. The park by our house doesn't have any. It was her first time on a swing. And she loved it. She was so excited by them. I have never heard her laugh so much. She would laugh and kick her little legs with each and every swing. So excited about all the fun that she was having!

fix It friday #31

[FacesFixIt.jpg]

It has been a couple of weeks since I have been able to participate in the fun of fix it friday. I was excited to get back in the game!

original photo

my edit

For my fix this week
  • I created 2 duplicate layers of the photo. On the top layer I used the blend mode of soft light and on the bottom duplicate layer I used the blend mode of screen. Both blend modes are used at around 50 % opacity.
  • Next I bumped up the saturation level especially on the blues to help his eyes pop some.
  • Then I popped his eyes some more by selecting them and using the High Pass filter in the soft light blend mode.
  • Next I lighted the photo using levels
  • And lastly I cropped and sharpened.
And WaLa! Finished. Oh and I cleaned up his face using the spot healing brush. I am glad that I am not the only one that gets pics of kids with "stuff" on their face. It seems my kids never have a clean face. Ha ha!

A Few Of My Favorite Things . . .

Whew it has been a busy week. I have been cleaning like mad. My house is spotless. Ha! I wish. The kids just seem to undo what I did. I still love them . . .

I am slow at getting to this, but this week at i faces it is a non competition week. It is "My Story in Photos: My Favorite Things." I just couldn't pass it up.

So in no particular order: A Few Of My Favorite Things . . .

My family. My sweet husband and my three amazing children. I love them like crazy. I love all the fun we have together; all the laughs, all the silliness, all the adventures.

My wonderful mom. I can't think of a better friend. I truly enjoy the time we spend together.

Sleep. I love sleep. It seems that I can never get enough of it. I am so grateful that Logan and I switch off sleep-in days when he is home so that we both can get some extra needed rest. Ya, sleep is one of my favorite things!

(And no this isn't my bed. Although I wouldn't mind. I didn't take pics of all my favorite things!)

Treats. I love treats of all kinds. These are my favorite cookies although right now I can't get pumpkin chocolate chip cookies off of my mind . . . maybe because it is fall.

Pedicures. I love to get my feet looking good with a relaxing pedicure. I don't get them enough and they don't seem to last long enough. Red is always my color of choice.

A sleeping boy in the afternoon. He falls asleep on the couch almost every day and it melts my heart every time I see it. So sweet.

Sisterly love. There really is nothing like having a sister. I love how close these two are getting.

Shopping! But not in heels . . . ha ha!

Birthdays! Mine or my kids. I love the celebration and the fun. And you get treats. An added bonus.

My camera. I am loving photography and trying to learn all that I can about it.

My computer. I could spend all day on the computer. I love blogging and reading the blogs of others . . . even those of people I don't know . . . but have come to know via their blog! I also love editing my photos and learning ways to make my photography look better.

Wowza! That was long. And I think I could go on a bit longer, but I have wasted enough time on this already. What are a few of your favorite things?

Mini Photo Shoot

Last week I did a mini photo shoot with my kids. It always stresses me out. I usually resort to bribery. I always have a vision in my mind of how I want my picture to look and I stress and get frustrated when my kids aren't posing just as I want them too. This time though they were very cooperative. Amid the stress, I had fun!

Each and every time I do photo shoot whether it is of my kids or someone else I am a stress case. I get so nervous. I forget things. Important things. I forget to check all the settings on my camera and in turn I don't always end up with the end results that I wanted. Such was with these. I think the individual pics of the kids turned out great and there is at least one that I LOVE of each of them, but my group shot (the one I had a vision of) turned out not so in focus. Such a disappointment. I like it. But I don't love it. I wish it were in focus and the thought of getting everyone back in their picture outfits and starting over makes me cringe. Like I said I stress. So I am left with a slightly out of focus pic that will forever remind me of the camera settings that I completely forgot about. UUGGHH! I guess a lesson to be learned. Hopefully next time I will relax and take more time to remember the important things!
