Sophie Goes To Kindergarten

Sophie had a big day last week. Her first day of Kindergarten. She was soOoo excited. (I just love how you can see all of her excitement in these pictures - it just shines through!) She has been waiting for Kindergarten to start ever since pre-school ended in the Spring. We have been talking about Kindergarten and reading books about Kindergarten. In one of the books the little boy takes an apple to his teacher. Sophie wanted to do that too. So I dug into my teaching supplies and found a stuffed apple that I had received when I was teaching and gave it to Soph to give to her teacher. She loved it and couldn't wait to give it to Mrs. Robbins.

I will never forget taking her into her classroom and watching her meet her teacher for the first time. She was so cute as she handed her the apple and stumbled over her words trying to decide whether to tell her she was five or what her name was. She hung up her backpack and made her way to a desk. A DESK. Already?!?! I always thought kindergartners sat at tables. She looked so grown up sitting there with her other class mates that I am sure she will be fast friends with. She was intrigued by her surroundings and looked all around taking it all in. I just know she is going to love it.

Unfortunately that pretty much made up her first day. It was only an hour long and I was there the entire time. She left feeling pretty disappointed that there wasn't more to it. She was off the rest of the week for the teachers to do pre-assessments.

When school started today there wasn't the same excitement there was last week. She took to it like a champ though. She just walked right in and never looked back. I think I was the one holding on. It really set in last night that I was sending my baby away to kindergarten EVERY day. Yes, it is so much like preschool had been. But it its EVERY day. I will miss her. And it will be especially hard for me when Collin starts school next week too.

When I picked her up today I couldn't get much out of her, but she was HAPPY! The one thing she told me about today was "Do you know what we didn't do mommy? We didn't paint!" I thought for sure she was going to say play with toys. I am glad that she had a good day. My little girl is in Kindergarten. Still hard to believe.

Soccer

Sophie had her first soccer game yesterday. And as she says "Soccer is HARD!" It was a very emotional game. A game full of fun, smiles, nervousness, and tears. Even before the game Sophie was worried about what would happen if she didn't win.

They started out with some practice before hand. Everything was going great. She was smiling and enjoying being with the other girls "taking turns." That was how she liked it. When the actual game started and girls started pushing and trying to take the ball away it got a little rough. Despite the fact that no one was taking turns Sophie was always eager to go for the ball and was right there with it. Several times she got tripped or nocked down. That of course led to tears. And once someone else on her team scored a goal. That too led to tears.

She even scored a goal. Well not technically. It happened to be after the whistle had been blown for the end of the quarter. But we don't like to focus on that. She was thrilled and so proud of herself. She is so cute.

As of now she wants to go back. So we will. We aren't sure if this is something that will last. We hope so, but if she is going to be a nervous wreck and not enjoy herself it isn't worth it. Only time will tell. But as it is it was fun cheering her on! Go Grasshoppers!!

For Sophie

Although the celebration is passed, today is your official birthday and I couldn't let the day pass by without telling you how much I love you. I remember very vividly the day you were born. The excitement your daddy and I had as we went to the hospital, holding you in my arms for the first time, admiring your beauty, and listening you to cry for hours and hours and hours. What a special day.

Sophie you are truly a delight in our lives. You bring us so much joy and happiness. I can't believe how fast you are growing and what a great young, young woman you are becoming. You have high hopes and dreams for yourself and I want you to always reach for those. You can do anything and be anything you put your mind to.

I love the way we can talk about things ... how flamingo's sleep, what you want to be when you grow up, what you are going to eat when you are a mom, how much you love your stuffed animals ... totally random things that mean everything to you at the time. Those conversations are priceless to me.

I love that you and Collin are best of friends. I love the way to talk to Ruby in such a sweet voice and try to teach her so many things like how to crawl. I love the way you always ask people what their dogs name is (even though you are terrified of dogs). I love the way you make friends with everyone and always seem to make a friend no matter where we are.

Happy Birthday Sweet Girl. I can't believe you are 5! We love you Sophie J. We love you so much. More than words can describe.

Love Mommy

i ♥ faces - nostalgia

When I was little, I was totally into babies. I spent my days playing house pretending to be a mom. I wasn't into much else. I always thought my little girl would be the same way. However, Sophie is not. She is not into babies at all. She is much more into stuffed animals and small princess figures. But recently, she has started taking an interest in my dolls that I played with when I was little. I had this collection of dolls that I treasured and kept for my little girls to play with. It is so much fun to see Sophie playing with them and brings back a flood of memories from when I was little. I know she still prefers her animals and figures over my dolls, but still I can't help but love watching her be a little mom just like I was.

This week at i faces the theme is nostalgia. I couldn't think of anything more nostalgic than seeing my little girl playing with my dolls.

Ariel Party!

The day Sophie has been waiting for FINALLY came. Her birthday! Well technically it isn't until the 25th but she doesn't know. We celebrated it with family and friends at an Ariel party. It was a big success and she loved it.

She invited 5 friends because she is turning 5! Aren't they all so cute?

The Party Plan
  • Ariel coloring pages . . . something to do while waiting for everyone to arrive
  • pass the shell (played like hot potato)
  • pin the crown on Ariel
  • crab walk races
  • presents
  • cake and ice cream
Sophie was very specific that she wanted pink Ariel cupcakes topped off with blue sprinkles to be like the ocean. We also made "ocean" water complete with swimming fish (blue kool-aid with swedish fish frozen in ice cubes). Sophie had a Ariel shirt to wear and we had an Ariel bubble blower. So much fun! And of course Sophie couldn't wait to open presents and she LOVED every single one of them.

The games were a hit although some were too shy to participate in all of them. I think the favorite among the group was Pin The Tail On Ariel. It is pretty funny to watch, and I am 100% sure there was NO peeking!!

What a fun party! Sophie is so grateful for all of her friends and family that came to celebrate her birthday with her. Thank you! Wow! I can't believe she is 5 years old. And Kindergarten starts tomorrow. Man she is growing up right before my eyes. Love you Sopher Bug!

i ♥ faces - bubbles

This week at i faces the theme is bubbles. I was about to get out the Ariel bubble blower that is sitting in my basement as a surprise for Sophie's Ariel birthday party in hopes of getting a great bubble shot. Until I remembered just how much Soph and Collin love blowing bubbles in their milk. It is a regular occurrence at dinner time. I am constantly reminding them of their manners. Imagine their excitement when I gave them a glass of milk with a straw and asked them to blow bubbles. What fun!

The entries are great this week. Go check them out!

The countdown . . .

The countdown begins continues! Literally.

Only 7 more days until the big Par-tay!

Sophie could not be more excited for her birthday. It is such a hard wait from Collin's birthday to hers. And understandably so . . . from her eyes she is older so her birthday should come first, right? So anyway she is so excited! That may be an understatement. She has so many plans for her party and I am just trying to keep up with her. Planning a party with a soon to be 5 (GASP!) year old is a lot of work, but I LOVE it! And I am pretty excited too!

Fix It Friday #24

[FacesFixIt.jpg]

Every Friday at i faces they have a photo to edit. I decided that this would be a good way to learn and practice editing photos. This weeks photo is from Muddy Boots and is titled "The Eyes Are The Window To The Soul."

my edit

I would love to share what I did to edit this cute guy, but I tried so many different things that I really have no clue exactly how I did it anymore. I tried using some actions, but had NO luck installing them. AARRHH! I was seriously so bugged and frustrated by this. But I did learn how to make eyes pop and how to trick PSE into making a layer mask. So a success! The tutorials at i faces are awesome!

Celebrating Summer: Picnics

We took the kids for a picnic today. It was so fun and quite relaxing. The kids loved eating outside, watching all the dogs, playing in the water, finding sticks, throwing rocks, and acting out The Three Billy Goats Gruff. And for me it was just wonderful to be out with my family enjoying the day.

8 Months!

My little Ruby Roo is 8 months old and growing and changing every day. I seriously wonder where the last 8 months have gone. I swear I just gave birth. She is still the sweetest thing you have ever encountered. Her smile is contagious and you can't help but want to make her laugh. She eats well, sleeps well, and loves her brother and sister like crazy as they do her ... sometimes too much! She has FINALLY figured out how to roll over from her stomach to her back and is now all over the place. I find her stuck in many crazy places through out the day. Silly little lady! I just know it won't be too long before she is crawling. Sigh. She loves to blow raspberries ... and I hate it. I always get some type of fruit or vegetable blown right into my face! But one can't get too mad when it is followed by such a cute grin. We just love this sweet little girl and I can't imagine not having her as a part of our eternal family.

Oquirrh Mountain Utah Temple

We had the opportunity to take our children the Oquirrh Mountain Temple open house. What a wonderful experience it was. It is always neat to be in the temple with your eternal family. Sophie and Collin love the temple and quite often ask if we can go there; especially on our way home from Grandpa and Grandma's house where they always see it sitting so beautifully on the mountain.

As I think of taking my children to the temple, I can't help but think of these words given in a talk by President Thomas S. Monson

During one year, the Primary organization conducted an effort to have the children become better acquaited with the holy temples of God. As a loving teacher guided a boy or girl to the large door of the Salt Lake Temple and the little one reached out and up to touch the temple, I could almost see the Master welcoming the little children His side and could almost hear His comforting words: "suffer the little children to come unto me, and forbid then not; for of such is the kingdom of God."

"As we love the temple, touch the temple, and attend the temple, our lives will reflect our faith." Thomas S. Monson

I love to see the excitement my children have for the temple just in visiting its ground and in aspiring to go there some day. Although much of the open house was beyond their understanding, they did feel of the Spirit of the holy house in which we were in. And for Sophie I think it brought back some memories of the special day when we visited the temple to be sealed together as a family for all time and eternity.
