More Lights!

A nearby city puts on a great light show every year. The kids love it ... we love it too! It is fun because it is one you can either walk through or drive through. We always walk through it at least once, and it makes for a good break to a stir crazy night so we drive through it a lot! Last night we bundled up and walked through.

sophie wanted to have her picture taken by all of her favorite animals ... which happened to be just about every one. she liked the unicorns the most though. the dragons were collin's favorite.

this rascal DID NOT want his pic taken. i had to practically twist his arm to talk him into this one.

Christmas Memories

There are so many little things about Christmas that I remember fondly when I was small. Eating on the Christmas dishes, wearing my rudolph sweatshirt, sitting at the top of the stairs with my sister waiting for my Grandma and Grandpa to come over on Christmas morning, family Christmas parties, anticipating various Christmas gifts, shaking wrapped presents under the tree, spending Christmas Eve with my best friend, Tiffany. The list really could go on. Just thinking of these things make me smile. But one of my all time favorites was helping my mom make the Christmas goodies. Every year we made Christmas treats ... fudge, toffee, and festive cream sandwiches. I remember that it seemed as if our dining room table was filled with the tempting goodies. So now to me it doesn't seem like Christmas without making and eating some yummy Christmas goodies! And trust me I have done more than my fare share of eating them.

This year I made some peppermint bark. Yum!

chocolate is so yummy!

the store i went to didn't have peppermint candy canes. seriously. tons on other flavors but no peppermint. so i had to settle on these instead.

The kids even got in on the baking fun. They made chocolate covered pretzels to give to their teachers as gifts. Collin was so good at it and stuck with me until all of them were done.

they both had a few ... errr a lot of tastes of the 'frosting'

these were so yummy too. any extras we had are now gone! and yes, it was me who ate the majority of them!

Soon we will be making gingerbread cookies. Sophie has been dying to make some for Santa this year so we will give them a try.

Lights

It wouldn't be Christmas time without a visit to Temple Square to see the lights. I have been wanting to take the kids but have been dreading it at the same time just because it has been so cold lately. But I got up the courage to brave the cold and last night for family night we made the visit ... and it was cold! But we all had a good time and the kids loved the lights. Sophie liked all the pink lights and named almost every tree she saw "diamond!"

love the pink nose!

The Princess and the Frog

Yesterday I had the opportunity to treat Sophie to a fantastic Princess Party in honor of the new Disney movie The Princess and the Frog (thanks to Logan's sister, Kelly who put the whole event together).

The party started at a castle with a Princess lunch complete with hot chocolate, cookies, chocolate covered strawberries, cheesecake, and heart shaped sandwiches.

Sophie was in awe with all the beautiful princess' surrounding her.

My beautiful Princess.

Sophie even got to meet Princess Tiana.

After lunch we went to see the movie. Sophie was so excited. It was a cute movie and Sophie loved it. After it was all over Sophie was a huge Princess Tiana fan and was begging for the doll. What a fun day! Thanks Kelly.

Baby It's Cold Outside

Cold is an understatement. It is FREEZING! So so FREEZING. We woke up nearly every morning this week with new snow. New snow to shovel. New snow to drive in. And new snow to play in. My kids love to play in the snow. And I ... well I am not a fan of anything cold so I usually like to stay inside snuggled up with a blanket on top of the heat register. But at least once a year I like to go out with the kids and build a snow man with them. So one sunny afternoon this week I bundled up the kids in all their gear and we headed out to brave the FREEZING.

And well ... the snow was pure powder ... so no snow men for us. But it was great for snow angels. Many, many snow angels.

And when one gets tired from making snow angels one needs to treat themself to a light snack.

Seriously, my kids are constantly eating snow. Any time we go outside they eat the snow. It is like their new favorite food. Only it probably can't be counted as a food.

Too bad though ... then I could claim that my kids are good eaters.

Don't you wish that the snow was as wonderful to you as it is to a child? Look at that smile. She's loving it!

Ducks

Last week ... when the weather was nice and not so cold ... we took the left over bread scraps from the Thanksgiving stuffing to a nearby pond to feed the ducks. It was a beautiful evening and it is always so nice to get out and enjoy being together.

The kids enjoyed squelching in the mud, finding magic wands, turning ducks into unicorns ... and back into ducks again, and of course feeding the ducks. They were hungry! And Ruby enjoyed riding on her Daddy's shoulders ... one of her favorite things!
